We’ve recently completed a series of upgrades to improve safety and connectivity on the trail between Gilmour Reserve and Silverton Road.
Safety improvements
Advance warning signs have been added at blind corners, along with new surface markings and “Share with Care” signage. A protective cycleway barrier has also been installed at the sharp corner beneath the SH2 bridge.
New shared path
A concrete path now links the Wellington Street end of the existing trail through to Victoria Street, along Silverton Road. Landscaping and signage are still to come, but walkers and cyclists can already enjoy a continuous route from Gilmour Reserve to Victoria Street.
What’s Next?
This project is part of a larger plan to connect the Hauraki Rail Trail at Goldfields Train Station to Waihī town centre via Victoria Street, Silverton Road, the Ohinemuri River, and Gilmour Reserve, before continuing along Union Hill (see maps below).
Much of this route makes use of existing footpaths.
Future plans:
Linking Wellington Street through to Goldfields Railway Station.
Extending the trail from the closed Clarke Street carpark through to Seddon Street.
Green line: The completed track. Red lines: Sections still to be built or upgraded by June 2026.
