19 October 2026 - December 2026

Road rehabilitation works on Kaihere Road are commencing from Monday 19 October 2026.

HEB Construction are carrying out the work, which is expected to be completed in December 2026, weather and site conditions permitting.

What's happening?

The works will cover approximately 310 metres of Kaihere Road, starting at 22 Kaihere Road and continuing south towards 54 Kaihere Road.

These will include:

  • Full-depth road dig-out to approximately 550mm
  • Stormwater drainage improvements
  • Cement-stabilised pavement construction
  • Final road surfacing

The work will be completed in two stages.

Traffic and access

During Stage 1:

  • Kaihere Road will remain accessible from State Highway 2 via a one-way system.
  • Northbound traffic travelling towards Ngātea will need to use the signposted detour via Benner Drive.
  • Heavy vehicles travelling northbound will need to use the signposted detour via Torehape Road East. See Detour Map 2 below.
  • Hayward Road will be closed in both directions at the Kaihere Road intersection.
  • A temporary 30 km/h speed limit will apply through the work area.
  • Please follow all temporary traffic signs and directions from the traffic management team.

  • Monday to Friday: 7am - 7pm
  • Saturday: 7am - 3pm

Every effort will be made to maintain access to properties. Where access needs to be temporarily restricted, affected residents will be notified in advance.

Hauraki Plains College

Access to Hauraki Plains College will remain available, as the works will begin south of the College.

Road users travelling north towards the College will need to follow the signposted detour.

The drop-off and pick-up area will remain accessible.

Rubbish and recycling

Rubbish and recycling collections will continue as normal. Please put your bins out as usual on your collection day.

Why we're doing this work

Parts of Kaihere Road now require more than routine maintenance. Upgrading the road will improve its condition, extend its lifespan and help reduce the need for more significant repairs in the future.

The project is part of Council’s ongoing investment in maintaining and renewing the local road network and supporting more resilient local roads.
