Are you a member of the community with an interest in the arts? Hauraki District Council have developed a Public Arts Policy, which aims to encourage the creation of artworks in our district.

Art is of high value in public spaces – it energizes and makes them interesting and inviting. The aim is for our district to be home to many pieces of public art, which reflect and value the diversity of culture in our community.

The policy will also serve as an assessment tool, through which Council can consider applications for artworks, and also remove artworks in existence that do not meet the policy. This will be done through creating guidelines and criteria within the policy. We are also looking at providing a pot of Council funding that applicants meeting the policy’s criteria can apply for.

Earlier in the year we asked you what you thought the policy should look like, and then asked for your feedback on the draft policy in September 2023. Staff collated all feedback received, and presented the final policy to Council in October 2023. You can now view the adopted Public Arts Policy in the 'Documents' section of this page.

You can contact us via email at letstalk@hauraki-dc.govt.nz or phone us on: 07 862 8609 or 0800 734 834 (from within the district) or write to us at: PO Box 17 Paeroa.
