Important Update: Trig Road North Closure

Our contractor, Ventia is on site this week to begin the culvert replacement.

Road closures:

From Wednesday 15th to Friday 17th October, Trig Road North will be closed daily from 7am to 7pm.

From Monday 20th October, a full 24-hour road closure will be in place for approximately 8 weeks.

A detour via Golden Valley Road will be available. Please plan your travel and allow extra time for your journey.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation while we complete these essential works to improve local infrastructure.

What's happening with the culvert and the road?

We’re pleased to announce two major improvement projects that will be taking place on Trig Road North over the coming months.

Road Rehabilitation

A 1.5 km stretch of Trig Road North (from property #45 to just before property #186) will be widened from 4.8 metres to 6 metres, creating a safer and more user-friendly route. The work will include:

• Significant road widening and alignment improvement (including fencing relocation)
• Installing stormwater drains
• Building up the road base
• Final surfacing

When: Early to mid-October 2025 through to March 2026

Culvert Replacement

At the same time, we are also replacing an old, corroded culvert, located on Trig Road North around 250m from the Waihi Beach Road intersection. Its replacement will be a new, stronger concrete culvert that ensures the long-term safety and stability of the road. As this culvert carries a tributary of the Ohinemuri River, the stream will need to be temporarily diverted to replace the old culvert with the new one.

When: Mid-October to early December 2025 (about 8 weeks)

Traffic Management for both projects

While both upgrades are in progress, there will be some changes for road users:

Road closure: From mid-October to early December, Trig Road North will be closed to through traffic while the new culvert is built. A detour will be available via Golden Valley Road.

Stop/Go: In the road improvement zone, Stop/Go traffic control will be in place during work hours.

Speed limits: When the road is open, there will be a temporary 30 km/h speed limit. Some parts may be bumpy or unsealed while under construction, so please drive carefully.

Work hours: Mon-Fri, 7am–7pm (occasional weekend or night work may be required).
