We are thrilled to share that the Kerepēhi playground projectis moving forward, with a total project budget of $321,000. This includes a generous $200,000 contribution from the Better Off Fund. This investment will deliver an exciting new play space that has been shaped by the voices of our community, especially our tamariki.
Plans for the new play space
Last month, we held a series of community hui to shape the final design. The first was in early July at the Kerepēhi Community Hall, where locals came together to kōrero and explore the concept plans displayed through large photos and draft designs.
Design options on show at the Kerepēhi HallBecause tamariki are at the heart of this project, a special hui was also held with them at Kerepēhi School later in July. Their ideas and enthusiasm brought the vision to life, and one design stood out above the others. The inclusion of a half basketball court and a new toilet block was also very well received. Thanks to their input, the playground design has now been finalised.
The preferred option and some of the other fun stuff included in the final design
The tender process is set to open by the end of September 2025, with construction scheduled to begin in January 2026. Completion is expected by March 2026.
