Completed and now open!
We are thrilled to share that installation is now complete, and the Kerepēhi playground was officially opened on 11th June.
The day began with powerful waiata from Kerepēhi Primary School tamariki, setting the tone for a celebration full of pride, connection and excitement.
Joined by Mayor Toby Adams, councillors, council staff, school leaders and whānau, the community marked more than just a playground opening. They celebrated a space created by and for local tamariki.
With a total project budget of $321,000 (including a generous $200,000 contribution from the Better Off Fund), the upgraded space now features exciting new play equipment, a half basketball court and places for the community to gather.
Once the ribbon was cut and kai shared, the tamariki wasted no time diving in - laughing, exploring and making the space their own. Their excitement said it all. This playground isn’t just a place to play, it’s a place to belong.Thank you to everyone who contributed ideas, attended hui and helped create this space for current and future generations to enjoy.

In July 2025, we held a series of community hui to shape the final playground design.
The first was at the Kerepēhi Community Hall, where locals came together to kōrero and explore the concept plans displayed through large photos and draft designs.
